Illustration

The role of illustration is to provide an overall impression of what an object or concept is or does, and enhance the viewer's interest and understanding. Illustrations are considered when photos or stock images are unavailable or don't align with content.

In the Design System, illustrations are used to add visual interest and guide users to understand content and services. They create visual cues and entry points while reducing cognitive load. The Henry Schein Illustration Principles are: Human, Whimsical, Scientifically Friendly, Technical, and should elevate the context of content.

This illustration system was specifically designed for Henry Schein's positioning, with both Gen Z-Y and Gen X-Baby Boomers in mind, while embracing visual diversity and inclusion in its representation.

It has the versatility to appeal to all generations while maintaining a fresh, contemporary, and unique look that is evergreen and can organically grow and expand within a modular framework. These illustrations reflect and celebrate diversity, ensuring representation across different backgrounds, and are in harmony and consistency with the wireblocks and pictograms.
